Alexander Beben

Alexander is a Director of Austral and brings a wealth of experience to our projects. Alex has over 15 years of experience and has been the technical lead for over 500 heritage projects across Australia. Through his extensive and varied experience, Alexander has developed a collaborative approach to projects which enables him to work closely with Austral’s clients to ensure that they understand their heritage requirements and formulate innovative solutions to their specific needs. He has completed numerous projects that require approvals under the NSW Heritage Act 1977, National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974, and State Significant approvals (SSIs and SSDs).

As a local archaeologist, Alexander has worked predominantly in Southwestern Sydney. Over the past 10 years, he has accumulated a wealth of experience working with local regulators, councils, and Aboriginal stakeholders. He has worked on numerous projects at Wilton, including Bingara Gorge, South East Precinct (Stages 1 and 2), and has provided confidential pre-purchase advice at other properties that form part of the Wilton Growth Area.

Alexander specializes in the identification and management of Aboriginal scar trees and formulated the AHMP for Wilton 01 (# 52-2-3954), this document was successfully endorsed by Heritage NSW and Wollondilly Shire Council and supported the development consents for the Wilton South East Precinct.

More broadly, Alexander has a demonstrated track record for working with planners, engineers, and developers to formulate innovative approaches to their land releases. This has included formulating whole project methodologies that undertake consolidated Aboriginal stakeholder consultation, surveys, and testing programs to identify Aboriginal cultural heritage values early in the project timeframe. These then form the foundation for staged ACHAs and AHIP applications that are targeted to minimize DA and AHIP timeframes for bulk earthworks and staged land releases.
